Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 6 July 2016: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, has extended warm wishes to Muslims in Africa and around the world as they celebrate Eid Al-Fitr, following one month of Ramadan.

“I wish all Muslim brothers and sisters a blessed day filled with peace, love, happiness and prosperity,” Dr Dlamini Zuma said in a statement, wishing them all, “Eid-Mubarak!”

The AUC Chairperson stated that as Muslims mark the end of the month, they should be reminded that Ramadan provides an opportunity for them to continue in their efforts and commitment to helping the less fortunate through charity, particularly those struggling as a result of war, famine and economic hardship.

Given that Eid Al-Fitr is the beginning of renewed faith and continuation for all Muslims, Dr Dlamini Zuma encouraged Muslim brothers and sisters to continue with the shared responsibility, of supporting each other in efforts toward creating a peaceful, prosperous and just Africa and world.
